FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions About Home Staging

Q - Where do I begin if I don't have anything nice to use to stage my house with?

ANot an uncommon question. Most people cannot throw everything out and start over.  If you do not have any furniture worth keeping, it is better to simply remove the pieces and have nothing or you can rent some pieces to help you stage from a rental outlet.  If, on the other hand you just don't know what to do, how2homestage.com has a simple instructional appproach to preparing a home for resale and creating a theme though paint, color, and accessories that will mask the condition of the furniture.

Q - We have too much furniture. What can I do with all the antiques my inlaws gave us and not hurt their fee

A - Create a special room to display the pieces in like a living room or a guest room.  Keep the peace and keep the pieces...however for home staging purposes it is best to store all your "valuables" in a safe and secure place.

Q - I think I find a color I like and when I get it home it looks completely different. How can I get it right the first time?

A - If you are talking about fabrics, you need to take as many samples as you can to work with when you are shopping.  If you are talking about paint, you may have a lighting situation that is not the same as the stores that you are visiting.  Designers generally use strike offs or samples of the paint from the paint supplier.  If you cannot get a sample of a  paint color, go to a paint store where you can.  Many times, you can get professional advice if you can formulate your question.

Q - What if I cannot understand your instructions?

Q - I am going to put my house on the market around the holidays. I love decorating for the holidays but will the decorations be too much and turn potential buyers off?

A - Fortunately, the christmas spirit is contagious and especially during the holidays people generally love looking at holiday decorations.  Do keep your decorations up but be sure that you have followed all the decluttering and cleaning proceedures prior to putting up your decorations, even if you haven't listed your house yet, and make sure you can flow through each room with ease. If you have religious artifacts, it may be best to pack those away to use in your new home. They may turn potential buyers away and that is the last thing you want to do.
